Sonoma

Sonoma County is not one place but many places. Not one valley but many. The County stretches from the Pacific Ocean to the borders of the Napa Valley and hosts some of the most beautiful landscapes and diverse wine terroirs in California. The County’s farms produce some of the most delicious food in all of California.

The agricultural heartbeat of Northern California

Wine, Food, Culture

Sonoma County boasts a remarkable collection of 18 distinct American Viticultural Areas (“AVA”), each cultivating unique grape varietals and producing wines with distinctive personalities. Here is a short list of the most prominent:

  • Alexander Valley AVA: Renowned for its Cabernet Sauvignon which thrive in the region’s warm days and cool nights. Elegant and soft wines.
  • Chalk Hill AVA: Situated on the eastern slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, this AVA experiences a cooling influence from fog and ocean breezes. The well-drained, rocky soils are well-suited to Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.
  • Dry Creek Valley AVA: Known for its Zinfandel that flourish in the warm days and moderate nights. The wines are characteristically bold and fruity.  A Sonoma original!
  • Fort Ross-Seaview AVA: One of the coolest AVAs in Sonoma County, influenced by the Pacific Ocean’s proximity. This region is becoming increasingly recognized for its Pinot Noir.
  • Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA: Nestled within the Russian River Valley AVA, this cooler climate sub-appellation is ideal for Pinot Noir grapes and Chardonnay. This region also produces exceptional sparkling wines.
  • Knights Valley AVA: This warm AVA is known for its Merlot grapes, producing wines with soft tannins and flavors of plum and black cherry. It’s also gaining recognition for its Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah.
